I’ve been made to understand there are some serious Vinho Verde, especially those where the loureiro varietal is a major component. Unfortunately, I’ve never tasted, nor even seen samples of these wines in our marketplace. What you typically see are those that are like this one, inexpensive and often in a green or even light blue glass bottle. The two brands you are most like to find are Casal Garcia and Famega. I’d recommend trying any of them, especially for people who aren’t even big wine fans. They are all relatively light, primarily citrus in flavor profile and have the slightest spritz to them upon first opening. Some will have a bit of sweetness, but not like you’d find (and adore like me) in a fine German Riesling.

Flavors: More citrus, primarily lemon and lime, with a touch of spritz in the first few sips.

Pairing suggestion: Light seafood dishes or simple cheese and crackers. Great for drinking on its own.

Final word: A good wine, with exactly what I look for in this style of wine. Simple, easy to drink, with nice citrus flavors and a gentle scrubbing like your cat’s tongue licking butter from your finger tips.
